Best for running: the Hands Free 3 in 1. It clips around your waist with a quick-release buckle, so you can unclip yourself without unclipping your dog.

Best for most hikes: the Hands Free 3 in 1 or the 6 ft Mid-Grip. Hands Free leaves your hands open for trekking poles, a camera, or scrambling. The Mid-Grip is better when you want simple, direct control.

Take the X-Long if you're especially tall or just want a roomier fit, walk a small dog, wear it crossbody over a winter coat, or want more line for recall work.

Yes, the Grab Tab ($18). It's a short Biothane handle with an auto-locking carabiner that clips to a collar or harness. It weighs 1.2 ounces, so it can stay on all day.

Best for stepping aside for a bike, crossing a busy street, or holding your dog close for a moment.

For wet, muddy, or daily use, yes. Biothane is a coated webbing that's waterproof to the core, so it won't soak up water or hold odor, and you wipe it clean instead of washing it. Nylon soaks up water and starts to smell over time.

Ours is BioThane made to our spec, rated to an 825 lb break strength, with a softer hand than the standard pet webbing. More on our Materials page.

Yes. The fibers are sealed inside the coating, so nothing soaks in. It won't absorb water or hold smell, and mud rinses right off.

No metal is truly rust-proof, but ours is corrosion resistant. The carabiners are aluminum with a stainless steel spring. Rinse everything with fresh water after salt water, sand, or mud and it'll last longer.

Wipe it down with a damp cloth. Add a little dish soap and warm water if things get really mucked up. Never use oil or leather conditioner. Biothane doesn't need either, and both can break down the coating.

No leash is chew-proof, and we won't tell you ours is. Don't leave it alone with a bored chewer. If you've had a chewing accident, see our Accident Replacement Program.

Fill out the form on the Accident Replacement Program page and attach a photo of the damage. We'll email a code for 40% off a replacement within a few business days. We don't repair damaged gear, and lost gear isn't covered.

It's rare, but if something fails because of a mistake in how it was made, that's on us. We'll replace it for free and fix the problem on our end. Normal wear and tear isn't a defect, but that's what the 40% code on the Accident Replacement Program is for. Use the same form and tell us what happened.

Every piece is sewn by hand in our Seattle shop. In-stock orders leave within 3–5 business days, and most go out same or next day. Out-of-stock items take 2–3 weeks. Free shipping over $50 in the lower 48.

Yes. Unused gear can come back within 30 days. You cover the return shipping, and there's a 20% restocking fee. Used gear we can't take back, because we can't resell it.

You have 24 hours to change or cancel your order. We're quick to process orders, and once it ships we can't change or cancel it.
